it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Title 1 school in Colorado Springs. Many of my students are children of the military or first-generation immigrants. The purpose of this grant is to purchase beginning band books to start their journey in instrumental music. Like any beginning journey, it is extremely important to be equipped with the essentials.
We are fortunate that our school can provide instruments to my 100+ students enrolled in band.
Granted they are in just working condition and a significant amount of the budget goes to repairs and maintenance. What I'm asking for are funds to purchase band method books for each student. So, with each student being provided an instrument, I do not have the funds, nor am I allowed to ask each family for a fee, to provide this important key ingredient for their success.
We have been successful in bringing our students up to grade level and I believe that having a strong Fine Arts program at our school contributes to that success.
