This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My School serves grades 6-8.

We opened as a Title I school 3 years ago.

100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch each day. 51% of our students have participated in the English Learner Program (EL), and 22% are currently in EL. This year 32% of students are designated as chronically absent with an average of 36% over the past 3 years. I teach Beginning Band, Intermediate/ Advanced Band, and Jazz Band. Beginning Band is mostly, but not limited to 6th grade. Intermediate/ Advanced Band is comprised of 7th/8th graders. Jazz Band meets after school and is open to all student musicians at our school.]

My Project

MU: Pr6.1.EI Demonstrate attention to technical accuracy and expressive qualities in prepared and improvised performances of a varied repertoire of music.

As we breath life back into this band program, we're missing just one thing: A heart Beat.

We are picking our band program up from a few hard years of distance learning and Covid restrictions. Unfortunately, our poor concert bass drum STILL sits on the floor. We need a bass drum stand to get our feet marching to the same beat. This will enrich the band experience of all band members and ensure that we move forward TOGETHER.
