Band Instrument Lockup!

Help me give my students the adequate space to store their band instruments in the safest way possible. These cabinets will give ten students a band locker to call their own.

My Students

The bands here at Marquand are unique in the fact that their drive to succeed far surpasses any obstacle in their way. They are fun to be around, have strong relationships, and are growing musically everyday. Beginner band students meet four times a week and the middle school band meets for 55 minutes each school day.

They love music and enjoy learning and create memories with each other.

These students are from a small rural community and for the most part they have grown up together. Whether they are neighbors or cousins, they all treat each other like family. Its these family like friendships they have all created that drive the way they learn in the classroom. Their hands on learning in music education classroom is done majority of the time on

The band program here has started from the ground up, and has reached great strides in the short amount of time they have been together.

My Project

We currently have a small closet in the back of the music room which does not provide enough adequate space to store all the instruments. This has resulted in a few costly damages from instruments falling off old shelving. The closest music repair shop is an hour away, so when an instrument falls and needs to be repaired, it means a student will be without for a week or two. The little bit of shelving we do have is often too tall for some of our students to use. It has proven to be unstable and at times can be unsafe. With more students wanting to join band the need for sufficient storage space is becoming a problem I cannot ignore.

With some extra funding we will be able to purchase Wenger Music cabinets so students can safely store their band instruments.

This would instill pride in our band students and teach them personal responsibility. The cabinets that Wenger sells will provide each student an assigned locker. These lockers would provide enough space to store their instrument and their music. Each locker has a grille door, allowing students to see inside their locker and keeping the instruments locked up and safe. The grille door will also improve the acoustics of the room and help with the overall quality of sound. This would be a big addition to the music room which will last for many years and provide generations of students with a great band experience.
