Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our kids are Bananas for Books! They actually sign up to participate in a book club where we read and discuss books assigned to us by our district. Unfortunately with continuing budget cuts, we may not be able to afford the stories to keep our book club running this year.
I work in an elementary school located in an area of low economic development.
A high percentage of our students are labeled at-risk and hail from families struggling with issues of poverty. Many also come from homes where Spanish is the primary language spoken and read.
Despite these obstacles our students are born scholars! They are very bright and determined to succeed. We hold an after school book club twice a week and these students give up their precious free time to read and discuss books. I am impressed every day with their dedication and passion for learning.
My Project
These books will allow us to continue our tradition of Book Club. They will give our students exposure to award-winning literature as well as opportunities to learn about historical figures of the past. You will help these kids improve their reading skills as well as contributing to create lifelong readers!
On the first day of school I get at least 5 students asking me when we are going to start book club.
I really do not want to disappoint them this year.
Your donation will enhance the lives of so many children. They check these books out and take them home to share with their families. They talk about the characters like they are old friends. They are developing so many literacy skills and don't even realize it because they are having so much fun! This funding would mean so much to us!
