This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Homelessness, you never think of it as a child, but I have them in my room. They sit in my classroom and blend in with the rest, but about 1/4 of our school population lives in shelters around the area.
It is an urban classroom, with kids from all socio-economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
They come to school enthusiastic to learn, eat, and socialize. They love the stability a school like ours provides in such a hectic world we live in.
My Project
We have a magnificent physical education teacher that zooms with my class once a week. We do warm up and then practice a skill: throwing, catching, etc.
To my surprise, most of my students did not have a ball to practice with!
I had to have them roll up socks into a ball or toss an orange, but that will not roll back to you. It is so sad to see them practice with an imaginary ball.
I need to get my students outside and moving, these balls will help!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
