My Students

Mia Hamm stated, "I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion!" Her quote embodies the mission of our program. I want to make sure my athletes learn the power of working for others.

Our public high school serves approximately 1700 students from a large military community.

The student body represents a variety of cultural backgrounds and experiences. Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes and will change schools several times before completing high school. However, some of these students find a sense of purpose and belonging on sport teams. We are more than just a team trying to get be better, but we are a family.

My Project

Our sports program currently doesn't have enough soccer balls for everyone to have their own. This project will be used in several capacities. First, the soccer balls will be used to work on individual ball control drills such as bells, heel rolls, L behinds, toe touches, and sole rolls just to name a few. Secondly they will be used to develop passing and shooting techniques. Finally they will be used to develop set plays such as corner kicks, goal kicks, direct and indirect kicks.

My athletes have worked extremely hard to get us to where we are currently.

They have been very grateful and flexible with our current equipment as well. However, the balls will give us the opportunity to excel farther. Each player will be able to get touches on the ball at one time instead of waiting for partners to complete certain drills. My athletes will be able to get over 1,500 touches on the ball in the first 30 minutes of practice.
