This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A day in our school is full of energy! We work in a very small space and I have a large group of students. My students are always super excited and I try to keep that excitement going with what little resources I have. It always makes me happy to hear students asking what we will be doing the following week.
My students are from grades K to 5.
They are very loving and love to know that someone loves them too! My school is a small close knit school. We are in a low socioeconomic area and do not have much space and very little resources. We have many students living in shelters and foster kids. My students are always excited to learn something new and cannot wait to see me at gym time.
My school is in a area where many students do not spend much time outside so many times I am their only source of physical movement. Our school is a major source of their upbringing and we are working hard to change their views in what they are exposed to with positive reinforcement and role models. A huge part of life their lives is sports and they take great pride in it. We have created a basketball team to help reinforce this and make them strive for something they love. Hopefully this will transfer to other parts of their lives.
My Project
The equipment will be used for PE for all grades. The hoops will help with my younger students as they love basketball too. My space is limited to inside due to weather. However, with Spring soon upon us, we can use the yard. I do not do basketball much because of lack of room and not one basketball. We also created a basketball team to help those students who are excelling and are role models, as well as, students who maybe be having difficulty in their lives. They will learn teamwork, motor skills and life long activity. Basketball also improves coordination, speed and strategy. Students will learn to focus and work hard. All in all, they are getting a great cardiovascular workout.
This donations will add to my ability to teach my students a well rounded physical education program.
Basketball is a huge influence on my students and they look forward to playing. This will give my students the tools they need to be exposed to the skills they need. It gives them the opportunity to shine and improve their self-esteem. My students are always willing to try new things and I feel it's time to allow them more opportunity to play basketball.
