This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a dance Teacher at an Elementary School on Chicago's West Side. Balance Cushions will not only provide a place for students to sit other than the floor in our dance studio, but also be used to build core strength through various activities in dance class. They can also be used as a meditation pillow during yoga practice. The balance beam will also support younger students in exploring movement and strengthening their coordination. The poster detailing muscle groups and the dance anatomy book will familiarize students with how their bodies work internally to perform movements which promotes body awareness, safety, and a connection to science. The other books will help to support students through creative movement.

Dance is an amazing way for humans to express themselves as it is an art, but it can also help students who aren't as drawn to other sports to find movement that they love and can support their physical and mental health throughout their lives.

Having appropriate equipment, body awareness and strength are important to supporting an enjoyable experience in the dance and yoga space. I have so many students who are talented dancers and I want to give them the dance studio space they deserve to develop their talent.

My students bring such a joyful presence to dancing. I serve PK-8th grade students and the older students love to come in during their lunch to share that joy and love with younger ones.
