Baking Memories!

Help me give my students baking utensils to assist learning about fractions and ratios while baking up a storm!

My Project

Who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked bread or cookies? It summons the memories of yesteryear when the kitchen was the focal point of the home. Many of my students have not had the opportunity to create those experiences and we need to change that!

Through baking, this project will change the age-old question from 'Why do I need to learn this' to 'When do I GET to learn this'?

Fractions, ratios, measurement, basic math, and even the dreaded algebra are all incorporated in a practical manner. Baking yummy treats lends itself to the authentic mathematical learning in which students love to be involved, and will continue to participate in long after they leave the classroom.

With your help, students' apprehension about math can be changed, and their confidence with otherwise mundane learning can be transformed from dread to excitement!
