My students need sets of books for beginner readers so that they can take books home and read with their parents nightly.

My class of twenty aspiring readers would love to take home books and share their interest in reading with the grown-up in their lives!

I am a new teacher with two classrooms at two different schools! Needless to say, my own personal library is stretched thin between two schools. My afternoon kindergarten class would love to have a classroom library of paperbacks that they could "check out" and take home and read with their families. These students attend a high poverty elementary school. Learning to read is the foundation of the first years of school. I want to encourage a school-home connection by enabling the students the ability to take home a book to read with their parent.

I need a starter set of books that students are able to take home. The books I selected are a great start to providing books to students, who will then take them home. The books can be a wonderful supplement to what we read in class. These are books that they can choose themselves, take home and read with someone in their family. I will provide a brief questionnaire that the student and grown-up will fill out together about the story. Who are the characters? What is the title? What is the setting? What new words did I learn? I am an enthusiastic reader and have a true love for books. I would love for my students to leave kindergarten with a love and excitement for reading that they can share with their family.
