My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go," Dr. Seuss. My literacy bags are a great way for me to get books into my students homes to create successful readers and a love for reading.

My students are creative, smart, and motivated first graders who want to learn and be successful readers.

My students love to read and love books. I teach at a low income school where so many of my students do not have books in their home. Literacy bags are a great way to get a variety of books in their homes.

My Project

I will use the books I have requested to create literacy bags. Each literacy bag has a theme which includes a set of books and activities that go hand in hand together. The literacy bags are a great way to get books into homes where there are no books at all. The literacy bags will have a positive impact on my students because they will have books their families can read to them at home. The students will have exposure to different genres because each week they will take a different literacy bag home. Students who are read to at home are more successful readers. I want all my first graders to be successful readers who enjoy reading.

Donating to this project will get books into my students homes.

Providing books that can be used at home will allow parents to read to their children or the children to read to their families creating successful readers. A literature rich environment increases literacy and helps children gain a love of reading. Literacy bags are a great way to increase literacy and a love of reading in my students homes.
