My Students
The Common Core requires teachers to introduce more lessons utilizing technology into their classroom. However, as a first grade teacher I have very little access to technology. Extra technology is generally given to the older students first. But my students should have the same opportunity.
I have a diverse group of students from a variety of backgrounds: culturally and socioeconomically.
They do not all have the same opportunities but I am trying to provide all an equal opportunity in my classroom.
I teach at a school which is part of the 2nd largest school district in Illinois and has suffered financially due to the many cutbacks over the past few years. Technology in the classrooms is severely lacking and this definitely limits the types of lessons I can complete with my class.
My Project
With the use of an iPad we will be able to complete some very creative and advanced projects. These projects would be very engaging to the students and would provide opportunities for each student to participate at their level. I have connected with teachers across the globe and an iPad would increase the number of ways we can collaborate on projects together. There are many apps which can also be used for these projects with our students and I can not access those apps on my classroom computer.
This collaboration with the teachers across the globe will help expand my students understanding of many different cultures and increase their knowledge of how to use technology for educational purposes.
