My Students
Physical education is a vital part of every child's education. Even when it rains and there is no gym, we still need to be active and moving. "You don't stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing!!!" ~ unknown. Golf is a lifelong sport for my students!
Our school is a neighborhood school.
It is a Title One school. Our students want to learn and try new things. Most of our students have never played golf. Golf is a sport that can teach them to be active, proper etiquette and character education at the same time. Our students strive for perfection and love new challenges. This project would challenge the students and give them an opportunity to do something new when the weather just doesn't want to cooperate since we don't have a gym or multipurpose room. Our indoor space for physical education is a regular classroom.
My Project
My students need an indoor putting greens, clubs, and golf balls to practice putting indoors during inclement weather days. During inclement weather days, the students will be able to transition what we learn outside to the classroom. Since we have a golf unit, it has been hard to continue the unit indoors when the weather has been uncooperative the past few months. This equipment will allow the students the opportunity to continue golf in a comfortable environment. We will make a nine hole putting course in the classroom and have the students in groups of three play through the course attempting to get the lowest score possible. The students will learn the rules of golf, how to putt correctly, and demonstrate fair play while playing. The students will learn that golf is a game that they can continue to play for years to come.
Golf is a game of competition and at the same time a game that teaches etiquette, manners, and character.
All of these traits are what businesses look for in future employees. If we can instill in the young student the traits, it will help them improve their lives now, tomorrow, and in the future. As for the classroom, it will give us something else to do on inclement weather days.
