School is a place where students and adults should come and feel welcome and loved. Sometimes, without a warning we have a bad day. It's part of life but my students and I want to do something community service related to help when others are having a bad day. Months ago, we got a project funded where we had kindness bags. We gave them out to any second grader who needed one, but soon ran out. For this project, we are requesting some items to make Bright Day Bags, a take on kindness bags and a way for students to turn around their sour day into a sweet day.
Before anything happens in the classroom academic wise, students must be comfortable emotionally to be their best self.
So my classroom is creating a project for Bright Day Bags! To begin, students are going to create a poster design to hang in the second grade hallway for students to know if they are having a bad day, they can come stop by (after asking their teacher of course). We will use the cardstock and ink to print the posters in color! While some students are working on the posters, others will be creating bags by putting in a mix of the following fun and happy items: pens, pencils, bookmarks, stress balls, candy, and mini journals. I will also make sure to inform my team. When someone comes to the classroom in need of a pick me up, they will get to go pick out a bag to keep and hopefully turn their day around. While thinking of how we could help and support others community service wise, I wanted to choose something close to my heart, and I don't want anyone to struggle with a bad day.
