This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students all come from low-income communities whose families have chosen to send them to a charter school that is providing them an education that will prepare them for high school, college, leadership, and life. All of them are students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and have managed to work their way onto the Honor Roll amidst barriers in their educations.
For many of them, their educational experience has largely been negative due to their difficulty in learning the material, however many of them have begun to accept their disability and use it as fuel to become a better student.
My Project
These backpacks will provide my students with a place to safely store their school supplies and belongings. Many of them come to school with backpacks that have broken straps or holes in them. By having a backpack that is sturdy, they will be able to keep their materials organized and not worry about their school supplies being damaged. All of them will be able to use their backpack to store their novels, interactive notebooks, and homework assignments.
The gift of a backpack will also ensure that my students have one of their basic educational needs met.
It will be a tool that will help them continue to be a successful scholar.
