My Students
My students are in the third to fifth grades, are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and sensory impairments, and are attending a public school for students with disabilities in Brooklyn, NY. Our learning team adores completing interactive activities that go beyond the usual cutting and pasting. My students love experimentation and are encouraged to build things up whether their ultimate goal is to knock them down again or beckon over a friend to admire their handiwork with.
Our students are excited to learn and make continuous efforts to push their limits both socially and academically and require resources to assist them in their further growth.
My Project
My students need art and cleaning supplies for the new school year. I am a new teacher to the school and want to start my students' school year off strong by providing them with the supplies necessary to personalize and thus take ownership of the work they'll be completing this year. A great school year starts with arts and crafts and a clean environment conducive to learning.
In our classroom students of all levels will be encouraged to conduct research and craft reports using formats reflective of their current levels of expression.
Our students will be using these materials to practice daily living skills by participating in caring for their classroom environment and by adding their own special touches to their produced work. After all of the work they put into researching and creating reports, being able to publish and present the fruits of their labor is an important part of their learning.
Having printer materials and art supplies in the classroom will give students the tools necessary for printing their internet research and computer creations. Their printed work can be further personalized through the use of art supplies and be easily shared with their classmates and other members of the school community!
Printing capabilities will give my students the tools they need to practice speaking and sharing ideas through the presentation of their reports and stories they write and illustrate during the school year. Our students will be provided with tools to drive more opportunities to develop their communication skills.
