My students need basic classroom supplies for projects, learning activities, and staying healthy throughout the year...or at least some of the year!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lake's classroom raised $768

My Students
In J.K. Rowling's "Chamber of Secrets," Dumbledore advised Harry that, "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." I have this quote displayed in my classroom as a reminder that kindness, hard work, and persistence are all choices that shape who my students are as learners and individuals. I work at a gifted and talented school in East Harlem where my students are incredibly bright and motivated, and I believe it is my role as a teacher to guide them towards making choices in life that will foster a positive learning and social environment for all.
My students come from all five boroughs of New York City, and we are one of the most diverse gifted programs in the city in terms of race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background.
My students all are greatly passionate about education and have big dreams to pursue careers in engineering, law, education, medicine, and politics; they are the next generation of leaders and changemakers! To get them there, we need your help in acquiring the 21st century tools that will help them develop the skills they need for success in middle school and beyond.
My Project
Learning doesn't go very far without pencils, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. In order to make lessons really engaging, students require a great variety of supplies to facilitate learning activities.
This list consists of supplies that we have used with great frequency in the past, such as chart paper and post-its for gallery walks where students can get out of their seats, read a document on the chart paper, and leave their analysis and comments on a post-it.
I also prioritize integrating the visual arts into Social Studies in order to allow multiple points of entry for visual learners. My students can create some truly beautiful work with just markers, colored pencils, and papers: we have brought Revolutionary War propaganda posters to life using these materials, as well as greeting cards for Hindu festivals. If you contribute, my students can even send you some of their work using fresh supplies!
We need your help to keep our classroom well-stocked in order to support engaging and differentiated learning activities.
