My Students

I teach a gifted program of students that is math-based, but where the math is compacted so that I am able to integrate all content areas in multi-disciplinary, problem-based learning once a week. During this extra time, we are able to delve deeper into learning by integrating all subjects into problem-based learning. I work hard to include students in decision-making and classroom management to make them feel a part of their education. Students spend three to four full years with me as their teacher in grades 4-7.

I want my students to be happy, eager, and healthy learners.

They feel really comfortable in my class but find their quirkiness and intensities overwhelming for other students throughout their day. My students get frustrated by their confusing social interactions with their grade-level peers as a whole and can be highly emotional in their responses to teachers and students alike. Through project-based learning, I can integrate social-emotional learning and team building into our class learning environment.

My Project

Last year was a huge challenge and my students did an amazing job of staying masked and restricting movements in the classroom. Our classroom was very sterile and did not have the usual interactions as in past years. I am so proud of my students and how they handled such a challenging year and am looking to create a warm, fun environment this year while still maintaining social distancing and a healthy environment.

I am looking to revamp my classroom and help students return to a more natural, playful environment, while still maintaining needed protocols due to the new variant.

I am working to bring back purposeful and fun play into every day work. Weekly, students will be able to do their work in a black lit, neon environment. Using glow sticks and UV light and special pens, the room and all of their activities will be glowing and students will be engaged and motivated. In addition, they will have opportunities to grow plants and vegetables in order to create a daily, welcoming environment and find the satisfaction of taking care of something they nurture. In addition, they will be able to take pride in maintaining their environment by having ownership in cleaning their desks, keeping the room organized, and taking effective notes.

After such a challenging and unexpected last year, I am excited to be able make this year the best one yet!
