This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For most of my kindergarteners, September will be the first time they step foot into a classroom. They are curious, nervous and eager to learn! I want them to succeed!

My students live in a high poverty, high crime neighborhood in inner-city Philadelphia; 100% receive free breakfast and lunch.

For many families, it is very difficult to contribute much to their education and some children come to school with very little. I would hate for their first school experience to be limited due to situations out of their control.

My Project

Imagine how upsetting it is for 5 year olds to go to school (for the very first time) with little to no supplies! I don't want my new students to have negative feelings about going to school before the fun even gets started! With the supplies I am requesting, my students will be able to get off to a good start. They will be able to have a positive first experience and hopefully it will help them to thrive throughout the school year. They will learn to color and cut (and build their fine motor skills) with the crayons and scissors! They will learn how to write their names, letters and numbers with the markers, pencils and paper. And, we can try our best to stay healthy with Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. It would be impossible without these supplies!

This project will help ensure that all of the students in my class have an equal chance at excelling this school year!

I would hate for them to be behind before they even begin due to circumstances out of their control.
