This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As teachers we are taught early on about Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and at the very base of the pyramid is physiological needs which includes food. I know that if my students are hungry they are going to be focused on that rather than being able to learn. Therefore I want to do what I can to get my students the best opportunity to focus on their learning.
In this project I am asking for donations to provide my students with food items for breakfast and snack.
Our school does provide breakfast for all students, but if a student arrives late then most times there isn't any breakfast left. As adults we know what it is like to have to work when we're hungry and it's even worse for children who don't always have the capacity to process through that. I like to have food supplies available for my students that may come late and need breakfast or need something extra throughout the day. We also have a snack time during recess and many students will bring their own snack or have something left over from breakfast or lunch. Since the majority of my students are coming from families in low socio-economic status they don't have the means to provide a snack for their child. This is also why I like to keep extra snacks in my classroom for their students.
