My Project

Real-world learning is very important in my classroom. I strive to make learning fun and exciting. Last year, I had supplies donated to my economics classroom store. This project will help restock the store. I use a positive behavior system with tickets. Students are rewarded tickets for being responsible, following directions, being kind to their classmates, and making good decisions. Students are also given tickets for staying on task and completing assignments. The students can also lose tickets for making poor choices in the classroom. My plan is to have students save their tickets. Every other Friday, I will allow the students to shop at our classroom store. They can either choose to spend their hard-earned tickets on the lesser-priced items or save them for the higher-priced items. The pencils, candy, and games will add some fun prizes as students are getting back to school. The plates and cups will help to sort the items.

I love that there is a real-world life lesson hidden inside this system - economic education!

Some students have never had the opportunity to earn money and make the choice of what to spend it on. I will incorporate our class store into math lessons.

Students are motivated by these rewards and they learn about economics in the process. If my project is funded, it will help promote good behavior and citizenship in my classroom, all of which will benefit my students in the long run.
