This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am proud to teach at an inner-city school in Houston, Texas. My school is almost totally English language learners who struggle to learn to read, write, and speak the English language.
As was the case with many schools, the Corona virus had a major impact on learning causing most students to fall behind.
Most of my students are from low-income families that are willing to do whatever they can to help with their children's education, but that is not always enough. Being able to have hands on materials and books to read will go a long way in helping to make learning fun.
The children are hardworking and thirst for knowledge. It is imperative now that we are back to in person learning that we begin to bridge the gaps that were created over the last year and a half.
My Project
This upcoming school year will be a huge challenge for me as well as the students. I will have several English language learners who are just beginning to gain the ability to read and write in English. With the help of the vocabulary cards and the English language development center, my students will be able to work in centers or with partners in order to practice reading and writing in English.
There's no better way to learn science than with hands on materials.
The Can Do Science Games will be the perfect way to make learning fun while addressing different concepts during independent work time. The activity labs will allow the students to experience science first hand as they work through each activity. The science books will allow my students to explore further and learn more in depth about the solar system, force and motion, and the states of matter.
