My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They are motivated to gain knowledge and look forward to new challenges. My class is full of energy. They have a love for learning which inspires me. They explore their world through hands-on experiences and work to create learning opportunities that are sparked by my students' interest, questions, and building upon their prior knowledge. I would love to bring more materials into my classroom to enhance my curious learners. In my class we spend time ensuring that students have the opportunity to teach each other. They have opportunities to share what they find by learning through one another.
My school is a K-8 public school in a low income community located on the south east of Chicago.
The majority of the students receive free lunch and deal with a lot of challenges in their community.
My Project
My students are in need of books, a listening center, headphones, and supplies to increase instruction. They are eager to read but lack books on their reading level. This project will engage them to read a variety of books on their instructional grade level and encourage them to read fluently by using the materials for the listening and library area. My students are part of a computer-based program called Raz Kids that provide books on their level that they can listen to and respond to comprehension questions on their reading level, so the use of headphones will help to enhance this program.
