My Students

I am a brand new teacher who has just graduated, and I am getting my first classroom! My Title I school serves a poverty-stricken, South Philadelphia neighborhood. My students are a vibrant and enthusiastic part of a fantastic school that values community and achievement.

My kids have a passion for learning and come to school every day excited to learn and ready for a challenge.

Most of the kids in the school live within a few blocks, making the connection between the school and the community very strong. We celebrate the diversity of our school in order to build a culture of respect. These kids, who come from low income households, don't always get everything they need at home and rely on the school and their teachers as a "home base." This makes the relationship between student and teacher extremely important. My kids see their teachers not just as adults who tell them what to do but as their guides in education and in life.

My Project

I am requesting various basic supplies needed to set up a classroom. I am asking for glue, scissors, construction paper, pencils, markers, crayons, chart paper, highlighters and more. The students will use these materials for a variety of purposes including daily reading activities, word work, art projects and much much more. These items are essentials that many parents struggle to provide for their children. If I don't get funded, many of my kids will have to go without and miss the elementary school experience they deserve. These are critical times in a child's life and, in order to take full advantage of my students' potential, these basic supplies are required. Being able to take some burden off parents by providing these essentials makes my job both easier and more rewarding.

These basic supplies will make all the difference in my classroom.

In fact, they will make the school year possible. Resources are scarce in my inner city district, and I don't receive anywhere near the supplies needed to help my students reach their full potential. Without these supplies, I am genuinely unsure about how my students will be able to achieve the goals of the school year. Help my kids get the elementary education they deserve by providing basic classroom supplies.
