This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Two of my favorite quotes regarding education are by John C. Maxwell and Benjamin Franklin, respectively: "Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care," and "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." I strive to live up to these statements every day in our classroom. Teaching in an urban district with resources stretched to the limit has its challenges, but it is also incredibly rewarding.
My students face many challenges in their lives.
They deal with food insecurity, homelessness, and illness. Their families have been disproportionately affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Many are English language learners or may be neurodiverse. They are also resilient, curious, and unique. They are amazing and I want to give them the basic tools they need so they can focus on the good stuff!
Your donation will provide our classroom with supplies that are difficult for my students to provide on their own. We never have enough tissues for all the allergies and colds that we are dealing with. Dry erase boards and markers - especially markers! - are always in high demand because we use them all day long across all subject areas. I have never been able to provide my students with all of the folders they need to truly organize their classwork and homework, either. Learning how to organize materials is an important life skill that also allows students to put their focus and energy into learning instead of constantly searching for what they need throughout the day.
