This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a K4 teacher bilingual in a public school in the Southside in Milwaukee. Developmental preschool is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold pencils and crayons. My classroom has 35 students, distributed as follows, 4 and 5 years. Some students receive the service for Special Education (speech therapy, behavior, assistance in academic areas such as reading, writing math). All my students are of low economic resources.

As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers.

My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day together helping to create strong bonds of trust, fun, colorful teaching based on our standards.

My Project

This year will be a school year like no other! My K4 bilingual students are wonderful who come to school each and every day eager to learn. My students all almost come from South America, Caribbean. Our different cultures and diversities make our classroom a wonderful place for learning. Some of them have only been in the United States for a few years. The strength these children show in adapting to a new country, new school, and new environment never ceases to amaze me! I want to give my students every opportunity possible to ensure their success.

I truly believe that all children deserve all that is necessary to enhance their learning.
