This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
So many supplies are consumed in a year, however, less and less funding is available to replace these. My students don't come from the background to be able to afford supplies, so it's either my pocket or they go without. They go without for so much, they shouldn't go without for school supplies.
My students are wonderful but are often the over looked students.
Growing up in a rough neighborhood, poor families and lots of bad influences has caused so many of my students to get into trouble and discarded by society. Many others just struggle with catching up with information they missed for so many reasons. Many of my students can't afford their basic school supplies, but I never let a student go without. Every year I give binders, pens, pencils, paper, snacks and other supplies to any student in need. However, as our school keeps loosing money and people, we have less and less to do even our basic job.
My Project
Printer ink is no longer supported by our school district but students are always asking to print their papers or add a picture to a project. Currently, the printer is empty. With ink, the students will be able to type their biographical narratives for their personal frame projects. Other supplies like batteries, folders, paint and scissors are always needing replacement. Our class Neo cart has been only half functioning for the last year, so new batteries will mean students can each have their own Neo computer. Last year our Eggspert finally stopped working after 7 years. It is something that gets my students into the topic and they remember fondly for years to come. Being able to play Anatomy Jeopardy will help students prepare for their exam.
I work with the greatest students, even if others don't always see their potential.
Having basic supplies for my students makes the biggest difference. I wish I could give them everything but the best I give them is every opportunity.
