My Students
I work in West Philadelphia where the families have very limited resources to help support their children's literacy needs. Recently, I had the chance to revitalize the school library. For years, this space has not been used, and our students have been thrilled to experience a transformed space for learning, listening, and reading.
Students at our school come to class without pencils, paper, and folders, and many times arrive without having eaten breakfast.
We are a K-8 school with approximately 800 students.
The students I teach are excited to learn and happy to be a part of our school community. However, materials and supplies are almost non-existent and need to be purchased by the teachers. Students here love to read and need all the support they can get.
My Project
Our students have been learning virtually and soon we will back in the classrooms. Our students can’t wait and are so excited for real physical learning but they know it has to be safe. In order for this to happen, we are need for some basic materials. We need paper towels and cleaning wipes. Our students need to know that these materials are essential to keep us healthy and virus free. We need trash bags to ensure everything in our room is neat and we stay organized.
