Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a high poverty school in the midst of apartments and single family homes. Over fifty percent of the students are from low-income homes, and most receive free or reduced price lunch.
More than half of the students come from second language homes, and others have special educational needs.
Therefore, many of my students have limited resources and may not have had the opportunity to attend preschool. My classroom may be their first educational experience and opportunity for learning outside of home.
It's the beginning of a school year, and we are all excited to meet our brand new friends. Our students are taking their first step into public education as kindergarten students. My biggest challenge is providing them with new art supplies. My students love arts and crafts. We also enjoy showing our projects off to others by displaying them on the hallway bulletin boards.
My Project
Arts and crafts is our favorite time of the day. We love to display our work for our friends and families. Hallway bulletin board will be used to show off student artwork. We need collage boards, markers, shape cutouts, and rock painting kits.
One of our first projects will be using the small punch out shapes to decorate.
Using the shapes will make it easy to glue instead of drawing. The magnetic personality board uses a magnet wand to create a special character that will inspire students to write a story. Cardboard cutouts will be use to display "All About Me" artwork. Rock painting kits will be used in making a paperweight gift for our parents. Students will use the acrylic paint to design their one-of-a-kind special critter to take home.
More than half of students from low‑income households
