Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's the beginning of a school year and we are all excited to meet our brand new friends. A key to successful class is reducing behavior problems and increase positive classroom climate. I would like to reward my students with incentives and awards for making good choices.
I teach at a high poverty school in a midst of apartments and single family homes.
Over half of the students are from low income homes and they are on free or reduced lunch programs. I have twenty four rambunctious and curious five year old kindergarten students in my class. Many have not had the preschool experiences of being in a classroom setting learning to listen to directions. Following directions in class is a hard concept for kindergarten students throughout the year. Keeping their hands to themselves is another rule that takes awhile to learn.
My Project
I would like the students to be successful in school by empowering them with skills that will become the foundation for their self esteem. My students need incentive stickers, treasure toys, and awards. Students love to be rewarded for their best behaviors and teachers are delighted to recognize them. Each student will get a ticket for a positive behavior through out the day. At the end of the day, raffle prizes will be picked out from the treasure toy chest. Parents will be getting a notice for their child's successful day in school. Eventually, our class will work toward getting a pizza party or ice cream sundae party if 100% of the students participate in turning in the homework. Just to name few rules-Respecting school properties, being safe in the yard, being responsible for cleaning up, taking turns with games, lining up quietly, returning homework on time- these are expectations that students will learn to follow throughout the year.
This project will help recognize the students for their good behaviors.
My class will be a better listeners, more cooperative and actively engaged in the lesson because they will be recognized and there will be rewards that follow. Students will go home with goodies that they can add to their toy collections. By funding our class project, Back to School 2015 will definitely be a special year for all of us.
