My Students

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." -Confucius

My students love science, and they especially love the hands-on experiments, projects, and dissection labs.

My favorite part of teaching is seeing their eyes light up when they make a discovery during a lab.

I teach 8th-grade science in a middle school in Missouri. My students are both energetic and inquisitive learners. They enjoy coming to school, researching new science concepts, and conducting hands-on experiments.

Over half of my students live in poverty and don’t bring the necessary supplies to the classroom like pencils and notebooks. My students were also affected when an EF5 tornado destroyed a third of our town when they were young. Many of my students lost their homes or family members. They grew up experiencing loss at a young age.

My Project

In my science classes, my students create interactive notebooks.

They use the notebooks to take notes, record lab experiments, and create foldable activities about our current learning objectives.

Because we are daily cutting out items for our interactive notebooks, we go through a lot of glue sticks! I am requesting glue sticks, pencils, scissors, and markers to use for our interactive notebooks. I would like to have enough scissors and glue sticks that students don't have to share when adding to our notebook. This would make my class run more efficiently and cut out the "wait time" we currently have while students wait for others to finish. I also requested markers and pencils for students to use when adding diagrams or drawings to their notebooks. We always run out of Kleenex before Thanksgiving, so I would like to have some boxes in my supply to help us make it a few more months before we run out.

I've also requested some supplies to help us clean up our science classroom.

We have frequent spills and sticky situations when we do multiple labs a day.

A small vacuum will be helpful when cleaning up spilled supplies like dry rice (for a thermal energy lab), soil, sand, and pencil shavings. Please help us add some of these basic school supplies to our classroom. Thank you!
