Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share, and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish-speaking homes and live in small dwellings with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way.

Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have.

A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 4th year having a STEAM Magnet program on-site, and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the materials we need to support my students' learning goals and styles.

My Project

These materials will impact our classroom because they are everyday tools that we do not always have access to. Certain materials can be requested once a week but unfortunately, a lot of times, what we need is not available. We use whiteboards each day for lesson warm-ups and sometimes exit tickets. These markers will help us continue to do that.

The easel, poster paper, and Post Its will help keep our ideas charted for all who come through our classroom to see.

These materials will allow my students to work collaboratively and make posters of their own to present to their peers. They will also make charting easier on a day-to-day basis.
