My Students
Tradition, affluence, and arts...our school has been recognized as having it all. However, COVID-19 has changed the face of instruction and impacted families, students, and educators worldwide.
A Title I school, which serves mostly African American students, NJH school strives for excellence in all academic settings and grade levels, even our PreK scholars!
My Project
Students were home from daycares and other learning environments for over a year and a half. Parents were busy dealing with the physical and socioeconomic effects of the pandemic and they had very little time to teach their children the prerequisite skills for success in PreKindergarten.
Now that the Georgia PreK program is face to face many students are lacking skills that they normally come to school with like singing the alphabet, name recognition, some letter and number knowledge, and just being able to attend to a task to see it through to its completion.
Engaging center materials that allow students to learn the basics of letter and number recognition through play and teacher discussion will help us to bring these students up to speed so we can accelerate their learning and teach the GELDS (Georgia Early Learning Standards) that will ensure their readiness for Kindergarten.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
