My Students
Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. There are some families that are homeless and need more assistance. Many also come from military families. We have many cultures represented at our school. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100% of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a Makerspace and are now working to extend our STEAM clubs, and we are encouraging girls to participate in STEAM activities.
My Project
It is important to our STEM club and Makerspace to keep our materials working. Often parts break, and we need to replace them. We use the materials in STEM club, Makerspace and in the classroom. We also use them on STEM family night and Career/STEM day, so they get a lot of use.
LittleBits and Snap Circuits are a great learning platform for students, however many of the parts are subject to breaking.
We do educate students on proper handling, but it is hard to prevent all issues.
This project will help provide replacement parts for out LittleBits and Snap Circuit areas. We have 65 members in STEM club, and all of our students (420) use the materials throughout the year. We have Career/STEM day coming up and would like to have the materials ready to go.
The kits contain many of the replacement parts at a better value than individual items. We also have included a kit that will allow us to use our Lego sets with the Snap Circuits to bring a new dimension to our materials. We appreciate your help.
