This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 3rd–5th grade students are eager, curious, and full of excitement when it comes to reading—especially through our Sunshine State reading program! After a successful first year, we’re ready to dive back in with a brand-new set of Florida Sunshine State Young Reader Award (SSYRA) books. This project will help us provide a full class set of each SSYRA title for every 3rd–5th grade classroom, so all students can access the books they love without having to wait.

These engaging, high-interest books are designed to spark a love of reading while building essential literacy skills.

With a wide range of genres and voices, they offer something for every reader—helping students strengthen comprehension, make connections, and develop critical thinking skills. The goal is to not only support academic growth but to nurture a true enthusiasm for reading that extends beyond the classroom.

What makes our students so special is how excited they are to read and talk about books. They love voting for their favorites, completing reading challenges, and sharing recommendations with friends. Your support will help us continue a program that’s become a highlight of our school year and a big motivator for young readers. Thank you for helping us keep that momentum going!
