Baby, It's Cold Outside!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing and in the process of learning TWO languages! As Dual Immersion students, they spend half of their day learning in English and the other half learning in Spanish. They brought me to tears when they sang "Happy Birthday" to me in Spanish because their dual language skills are phenomenal. They work hard and consistently go above and beyond. They inspire me to go above and beyond as their teacher.

My students are a great mixture of ethnic backgrounds, economic statuses, and proficiency levels.

The jump from third grade to fourth grade is gigantic, and they have made that jump with confidence, success, and a remarkable growth mindset. They are currently begging me for more fraction problems and more chances to practice their reading skills. They are a stellar group full of problem-solvers, future doctors, future leaders, future parents, future decision-makers, and I am beyond humbled to be their teacher.

My Project

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting a VERY cold winter for us here in Utah and along with cold winters, come poor air quality days. Both of those days mean inside recess for my students. With these specifically chosen games and books, I hope to provide my students with a break from school, even though we're still in our classroom.

Studies have shown the importance of recess, and even though we are inside, I want my students to take a breather from the rigor of our lessons.

With the variety of these games, added to my current slim supply of inside recess games, students will be able to have something to give their brains the necessary break. The Who Is/Who Was book series are favorites of my students, and these would be specifically designated as "recess books", allowing those quieter students a chance to read new material.
