My Students
"Education is the most important weapon we can use to change the world,"-Nelson Mandela. My students are a sweet group of firsties who come from many different countries around the world, including Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, China, Japan and the Dominican Republic. They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first generation English speakers.
My Project
The Osmo will be used daily in our class for both Literacy Stations and Math Stations. This technology will allow my students to "play outside of the screen," and allow them to not just touch a bunch of numbers or letters, but to actually provide visual, physical, manipulation of pieces (such as tangrams, and number and letter tiles). The Osmo will be especially helpful for my ESL students engage and practice concepts. This technology will give my students a head start in using innovative technology, as well as help them master essential skills in phonics, math and critical thinking skills.
