I teach in Wichita, KS. There are approximately 920 students and it is the largest K-8 school in the Wichita district. I will be teaching K-5 general music as well as exploratory classes for 7th and 8th grade students.
I am so excited to work with the students, parents, and staff to bring them the love and joy of music.
Our school is in the top 1% of the most diverse schools in the state. Our school has 62% minority enrollment with 28% Asian, 12% Hispanic, and 11% Black. Our students eligible for free and reduced lunch is at 40%. I want to give my new students the best opportunities to learn.
My Project
I love teaching music lessons that are centered around books. I read or sing a book and then turn it into music lessons and activities. Kids love learning new and old music. This project will help me get the materials I need to teach a love of music and a love of literacy.
Students will be leaving music class singing songs like Help a Honey Bee, The Good Song, as well as learning about musical stories like the Four Seasons and Carnival of the Animals.
I am so excited to teach this new music to my students and share the love and joy I have for music and literacy.
