My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn. I have taught first grade for 5 years and been a member of ATPE. I love what I do and love ATPE.

My Project

Art promotes creativity. Art boosts critical thinking. Through art, my students could build fine motor skills and stamina to work. To be successful in life, you need to be creative. How could my students think creatively when they have such limited resources? I would like my students to freely express their thinking and ideas on a blank paper without worrying about how much paints they would have left. I am asking for various types of art materials.

All children deserve to learn but not all children learn the same way.

With visual arts, children can learn to read, write, investigate, communicate, and socialize in a fun, meaningful manner. With your donation, all children can put a smile on their faces and proudly say, "Look what I made!"
