Art is essential to child development. Through art, children have the opportunity to to express their creative potential. Art can help a child develop confidence and improve their academic achievement.
My students are talented artists.
They love to explore different art movements and techniques. Learning about fine art and the artists who created the images, opens up a new world of experiences for the students at my school. My school has a very diverse population. We have students from Russia, India, South America, Dominican Republic, South Korea, China and the United States. Many of our students are recent immigrants and are English language learners. Art is a unique language that helps these students fit in to their new environment.
My Project
These materials will enable my students to create awe inspiring works of art. The fifth grade students will create portraits in the style of Modigliani using paper and oil pastels. Third graders will study the art of Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse using the Playcolor paint sticks. First grade art is centered around Georgia O'Keeffe and Claude Monet. Second grade will create art based on Pablo Picasso and Georges Seurat. The Fourth grade learns about American art by American artists. My students will learn how to look at art with a critical eye.
The materials donated will allow my students to develop their artistic abilities and art confidence.
They will realize that they are artists. The projects specified for each grade level foster an appreciation of art that is in the world around us.
