My Project

My students attend an urban PK-8 elementary school. Students in our school visit the library once a week and they love to check out books. Many of my students have come to the US in the last couple of years from places such as Russia and Nepal. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My school is one of the most diverse schools in our city. My students are amazing!

My kindergarten to 3rd grade students LOVE participating in the Monarch Readers Choice Award!

In Illinois, this award is a list of 20 books selected by librarians and teachers. During the year, students read these books in school and then vote for their favorite. Each student is given a Library Journal to keep track of their thoughts and opinions on each of the books. After each five books that we read, we vote and see which one is our favorite. We compare our favorites to those of different classes and different schools.

It is fun to see which book will win for the state! My students love participating in this program. (I love getting the books early so I can prepare and plan good lessons for my amazing students!)
