Awakening the Inventors of Tomorrow With a 3D printer!
My students need a 3D printing to bring their designs to life.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Varas's classroom raised $453

My Students
My computer lab is full of students who love technology. Their hunger fuels my desire to learn more and provide innovative ways for them to learn as well.
My school is in the heart of Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The population is mostly Caribbean American. People are hard working and want the best for their kids. My students are from Pre-K to 5th grade. The students are smart, funny and very passionate about technology.
My Project
I wish to solve a problem in education that has remained unsolved for years and years. I want to teach my students spacial reasoning skills. Most students can't visualize the difference between an inch and a mile. In part our society has created this world where a screen has replaced actually being in the park.
Technology has been 2D until now. 3D printing is the wave of the future. It'll bring technology and creativity together. We as teachers need to adjust to this trend. I want my students to learn CAD. Computer Animated Drafting is a skill that can lead to a wide range of career opportunities most of which they wouldn't fathom on their own due to lack of exposure. Most CAD software is free so in order for me to be able to bring their ideas to life I need a 3D printer. If a student can create their very own design on software that architects and engineers use then see that design come to life in a way they can touch, I believe, this will open their eyes to a while new world.
My students need a life of creativity without limits.
They can be artists or builders, makers or designers but most importantly they can realize that a bright future doesn't have to involve a ball or a record contract. I feel our country has lost it's desire to create. While we struggle to be better test takers we stifle our children's creativity. By combining technology and creativity we can show them how to be creative in the world they live while preparing them for the future.
