My students are diverse learners, from exceptional to gifted, in addition to coming from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Many students have never been to a museum or in any other part of North Carolina outside of their county.
My students are thirsty for knowledge and want to know more about the reading themes we engage in during class, yet students suffer because they lack background and experiences related to the themes.
My Project
We live in a rural community and many places to visit are an hour drive or more. Therefore, students lack prior knowledge on many subjects and topics yet they remain full of curiosity.
But due to technology, they gain their information sometimes inaccurately.
I want to start my school year off with Scholastic magazines that will keep my students up to date with the many current events that happen around the world. I also want them to enjoy reading about real life experiences. These Scholastic magazines will allow me to enrich their learning of current events, reading, writing, and science.
