Awakening Artistic Adolescents

My Project

This is the first time our Title One school's students will have a chance to concentrate on their artistic gifts, and these supplies will give them this opportunity. Many of them do not have opportunities outside of the classroom due to their impoverished backgrounds.

My students are starving for opportunities to grow their artistic ability and expand their worlds.

When I mentioned this elective class as a choice for this next school year, I was greeted with enormous enthusiasm to learn and flourish, which is a characteristic of middle school students that is not often seen. For a lot of my students, school is their safe place: a place where they are fed, feel seen, and are cared for. My administrators and I wish to build on this foundation and not only support their basic needs but also give them a place to dream and hope.

I am an ELA teacher, but I also recognize that a student's education is more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. Our purpose is to cultivate educated, confident, and well-rounded humans. Discovering and evolving our students' artsy side is a win-win for them and our community.
