PP School is a magnet middle school in the Mobile County Public School System in Mobile, Alabama, and is in the candidacy process of becoming an International Baccalaureate Middle School. Students come to P from every area in Mobile County (the largest county in the state), from the southernmost coast to the northern inland sections of the county, from rural areas, from suburban areas, and from inside the Mobile city limits. In years past, we have been able to maintain our 50% black/50% non-black student population which is also a contributing factor to our diverse school community. In 2016-17, however, we have a student population of 49% black and 51% non-black. Parents apply for their children to be accepted at P with the knowledge that it provides a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum. For this reason, P is known as a "School of Choice."
My Project
The students at PP School are avid readers and require a constant supply of fun and exciting literature to keep their love of reading alive. We are in the process of kicking off "The Busy Bee Book Club" but do not currently have the books needed for students to read successfully.
The books in this project will help both the library media center and the book club thrive.
At the present time, students are becoming increasingly frustrated with the limited selection of reading materials. The books they DO want to read are constantly checked out and on a long hold list.
