AVID learners are college bound and achieving their dreams! I teach fifth grade in a low-income, diverse community.
Unfortunately, most of our students come from families that do not have college backgrounds and lack the resources to even dream of college someday. That is why this program is so important! It puts the value back into a strong education and supports our students and families to help them achieve their college dreams and goals.
The students need an extensive list of supplies to be truly successful in this program which places a strong emphasis on organization. Most of our student's families find the demands of the supply list beyond their means and that is why we need your help!
The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program promotes study skills and organizational skills for academic success. This program follows our students through middle school and high school, where the skills they learn in fifth grade support their success throughout their academic careers.
The ultimate goal of the AVID program is to help students get to college and give them the skills they will need to reach their academic goals. At every level, the AVID program helps guide students through the journey to college whether it is providing homework support, getting parents into the schools to participate in student projects, taking field trips to local colleges, preparing for the SATs, or assisting in the application process.
The AVID binder is the first step in this program and helps to teach the students the organizational skills they will need to be successful. Each students creates their own binder which contains everything they need for a successful school day (homework, agenda, notebooks, folders, etc..). The students carry this binder with them to and from school every day and it has been very successful in helping the students develop strong organizational skills.
Since we have implemented the AVID program in our school, I have seen the confidence of my students skyrocket and their ability to believe that they will achieve their dreams rise. Your donation will help my students begin their journey to college and achieving their dreams!
