Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I had been teaching remotely last year, and couldn't wait to get back into the classroom in the fall! Our students have been so resilient, patient, and hardworking throughout the pandemic; it's incredible what they have overcome!
Our 2nd grade classroom just outside Denver has an array of language backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, and students who have just returned this fall from both in-person learning and remote learning during the 2020-21 school year!
Each student brings a different perspective, varying background knowledge, and experiences to share. Our classroom community thrives on respect and we take time each day to learn from one another.
My Project
In our classroom, we use books daily to discuss a multitude of topics: mindfulness, cultures, kindness, frustration, sadness, character traits, and the list goes on!
This collection of books would create an incredible library of seasonal books to help kids learn and appreciate the quiet changes in nature throughout the year.
From the change of leaves to the first snow of winter, from the celebration of Halloween to a Cherokee perspective of the gratefulness around Thanksgiving time, these books will carry us for months as we learn about and celebrate our world.
