Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Dramatic play in my classroom is no fun. There are no dishes, no refrigerator, nor a stove & little food. The sink that we currently use was donated to our class and we used it every day last school year. My autistic students need a home center where they can develop their social & sensory skills.

My students are active energetic preschoolers that need a stimulating dramatic play center that encourages learning.

Our school is located in a poverty stricken neighborhood where all of the students receive free lunch. Due to the districts budget crisis, there are no funds for available for much needed learning equipment. My class is in a new room that included no preschool appropriate furniture. I have made our limited resources attractive, but my students need more hands-on materials. My students love the dramatic play area. They fill the sink with blocks and cars because there are no dishes. My students need this center so they can learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits. I also plan to use the center to teach my student skills that can be transferred in their daily lives, like matching their socks and putting their dishes in the sink after eating.

My Project

I am requesting a kitchen & play combo kitchen for my class. This project is very important to me because it will positively impact my students' lives in many ways. I will use the kitchen to teach my students important skills that they need to be successful like nutrition, vocabulary, basic math skill (counting and sorting), and social etiquette like sharing and turn taking. The kitchen is more than a place for pretend play, it is an area that will provide my students with endless opportunities to practice social situations such as house, bakery, restaurant, and grocery store. The dishes will be used for pretend eating and sorting activities. The pretend kitchen, food and dishes will help my students develop their imagination and creative thinking skills and give my students an environment where they can thrive.

My students need a Pretend & Play Combo Kitchen, dishes and play food.

With these items, my Autistic students will develop social, play and communication skills that they need. These items are durable so they will be used lovingly for many years to come. This center will be used to its maximum potential. The best part is the students can use it independently or in a small group.
