My students need iPads in order to communicate their basic wants and needs. Through the use of the Proloquo2Go app, my non-verbal students will be given a voice!
My students are the most affectionate and loving children I have ever met. Although they have autism and are unable to express themselves through words, they show love and gratitude in much more meaningful ways. Like the saying goes, "actions speak louder than words" and the actions of my little angels scream LOVE! Each day in my classroom is a new adventure; some days we have our ups and some days we have our downs, but there are always hugs and smiles!
Basically, my students are my biggest inspiration.
Despite the constant struggle of not being able to navigate the world around them and the frustration it brings them, my students manage to find a way to connect with those closest to them. Ironically enough, my students (individuals who thrive on tangibles and logical thinking) have mastered the most illogical, intangible, and difficult part of being human - showing unconditional love!
My Project
My students inspire me on a daily basis, so what better way for me to say "Thank You" then by providing them with a voice of their own! Through the use of Proloquo2Go on the iPad, my non-verbal students will be given an opportunity to engage with the world around them. They will be able to communicate their wants, needs, and feelings in appropriate ways, rather than by engaging in inappropriate behaviors towards others, screaming, or becoming self-injurious. During group lessons or individual seat work they will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts being taught by selecting the appropriate icons.
Not only will my students be able to use the iPad to communicate with teachers, therapists, and family, but we will also be able to communicate with them!
Proloquo2Go can be used to transform every lesson into a visual format that our students can truly understand. Overall, being able to use an iPad in order to communicate will open a whole new world for my students!
