Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time..." – David Warlick. Technology in the classroom has a huge impact on students' learning and has an even bigger impact when teaching children with learning disabilities.
My fifth graders are students with specials needs.
They are energetic and come to school excited to learn every day. They are from a low socioeconomic community, and most of them have limited access to technological resources at home. The elementary school they attend is also limited in tech resources. The use of a MacBook Pro laptop in the classroom will help stimulate and engage students visually, as well as expose them to a world beyond the classroom.
My Project
The MacBook Pro would benefit my students by allowing them access to e-books, animated stories and other educational related content that they can access electronically. The hands-on and visual exposure will help them develop basic reading skills such as phonics, comprehension, vocabulary and fluency. The laptop will also be a nice addition to our meager computer center.
The MacBook has built in standard apps with a wide range of assistive technology designed to accommodate students with disabilities.
The accessibility app provides accommodations to students who need assistance with vision, hearing, physical and motor skills, as well as literacy and learning. My students are not blind to their disabilities and can achieve anything they set their minds to. This project will assist them in that process.
